About Laura Grime

Laura Grime’s representational oil paintings are a celebration of life that radiate warmth and capture quiet moments of grace she sees in the people, the things, and the land around her. Sunny, vibrant, living colour, combined with soft brushwork are characteristics in Laura’s art work. As well, clear and strong anchored compositions make it easy for viewers to read her visual messages. Her landscapes are personal. They are an interpretation of the interconnected feeling of “oneness” she experiences when she is surrounded by the beauty of nature. Sharing her observations using a paint brush is the way Laura communicates in a world full of noise what words cannot.

Laura grew up between Thornhill, Ontario, her paternal grandparent’s home in Toronto and summers spent boating and swimming her little heart out on Stony Lake in the Kawarthas. She graduated from York University in 1991 with a specialized honours degree in Design later attending the University of Toronto where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education. She has held careers both as a graphic designer and an art teacher.

In addition to her studio work, Laura is also an author and storyteller originally known in Wellington County for her illustrated children’s books: Little Tree, Do You Love Me?, Grime’s Rhyme’s and The Make Up Story, which reflect the same warmth and emotional resonance present in her visual art. An artist all of her life, she has been quietly honing her drawing and painting skills for over thirty years. This is her first studio show.
